Diagnostic Study on The Profitability of Artisanal Gold Mining in Guinea

The general objective of this study is to make a diagnosis of the artisanal gold mining sector in Guinea with a view to finding the best way to optimize not only the benefits of the State but also of the communities and artisanal miners and contribute to the protection of the environment. We aim to:

  • improve, if necessary, the legal and regulatory framework for artisanal mining of gold
  • improve artisanal gold mining techniques in order to reduce accidents and increase profitability;
  • improve the structuring of the value chain of gold planning sensitive to the aspects environmental and social
  • strengthen the tax system applicable to the artisanal exploitation of gold and which is aligned with those of the sub-region to counter the risks of illicit financial flows linked to sub-regional marketing;
  • substantially and sustainably improve the financial contributions of artisanal gold mining for the state, communities and artisanal miners.
