Description of the Assignment:

The objective of this assignment was to work with the Government of Somalia, Local Community, and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to undertake assessment, feasibility and preliminary design studies for secondary/community roads in Mogadishu.

Apex Consulting and its partners (i.e., MG Engineering and Zaidoun-Leeng Sdn BHD) were engaged by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to work directly with the Government of Somalia to work with the local community to assess their priorities with respect to community roads within each of the 17 districts in Mogadishu.

On the basis of the results of the community priorities assessment, Apex developed a feasibility study to assess the best options for investments in community roads and drainage for the 17 districts. Finally, based on the results of the feasibility studies and extensive discussions with the communities, Apex developed preliminary designs for the selected investments in community roads in the 17 districts, within a predefined budget allocated for each district.
